Sex Racket Busted in Rented House Near Magh Mela Area in Prayagraj, Eight Detained

Prayagraj:
In a major crackdown on immoral trafficking, the Prayagraj Police have busted a sex racket operating from a rented house in the Kydganj police station area, barely a few kilometres from the ongoing Magh Mela 2026 venue.

The police detained four women and four men, all residents of Prayagraj, after they were found in objectionable circumstances during a late-night raid.

Second Such Case in 25 Days

The incident has raised serious concerns as this marks the second sex racket exposure within 25 days in the same police station limits. Earlier, on January 4, a similar racket was uncovered in the Kydganj locality.

Given the massive inflow of pilgrims and tourists during the Magh Mela, the incident has caused alarm among local residents.

Raid Conducted on Tip-Off

According to ACP Colonelganj Rajeev Yadav, police received credible information about immoral activities being carried out from a house located near Madhavapur vegetable market.

Acting swiftly, a police team comprising adequate force and women constables conducted a raid. During the operation, the accused were found inside two rooms of the house, and several objectionable items were recovered from the spot.

Woman Identified as Racket Operator

Preliminary investigation revealed that one of the detained women, a resident of the Dhoomanganj area, was allegedly operating the racket. She had rented the house by claiming that she would be living there with her family.

The house owner, a resident of Bairahana, told police that the woman had taken two rooms on rent for ₹7,000 per month.

Police said the accused woman used to bring other women to the premises and facilitate the illegal activity.

Interrogation Underway

The police are currently questioning the accused to identify others linked to the network. Legal proceedings will be initiated after completing formal interrogation and verification.

Earlier Case on January 4

On January 4, a sex racket was also busted in the Kydganj area, where police had arrested several persons from a rented house after breaking open the door in the presence of a magistrate.

Police officials stated that intensified surveillance has been ordered in areas surrounding the Magh Mela to prevent such unlawful activities.
