Severe Fog Disrupts Train Services in Madhya Pradesh, Passengers Left Waiting in Bone-Chilling Cold

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: The bitter cold winds from North India combined with dense fog have completely disrupted rail traffic in Madhya Pradesh. With visibility dropping to as low as 20 meters, trains like the Shri Dham Express and Agartala-RKMPS Special have been delayed by 13 to 14 hours.

Trains Running 14 Hours Late

The dense fog has wreaked havoc on train services, especially those coming towards Bhopal and Itarsi from Northern India. The visibility was so poor that most trains were forced to crawl along the tracks, making journeys extremely difficult for thousands of passengers. As a result, trains have been running late by 10 to 14 hours. According to Indian Railways data, the Shri Dham Express reached Itarsi station 13.5 hours late, while the Agartala-Rani Kamalapati Special experienced an even worse delay of nearly 14 hours. Other premium trains, including the Malwa Express, Sachkhand Express, Karnataka Express, and Tamil Nadu Express, were also delayed by 2 to 5 hours.

Passengers Endure Harsh Conditions

The situation at the stations has become extremely challenging for passengers. With freezing temperatures and severe cold waves, travelers have been forced to wait for hours on open platforms for their delayed trains. Not only are passengers losing valuable time due to these delays, but the entire railway timetable has also been disrupted because of the rescheduling of trains. Meteorologists predict that the fog will persist for the next three days, intensifying due to the active western disturbance and increased moisture in the atmosphere.

Weather Department Issues Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Dense Fog’ warning for the next 72 hours. Rail passengers have been advised to check live train locations before heading out to avoid further inconvenience.
