Severe Cold Wave in Jharkhand: All Schools from Pre-Nursery to Class 12 Closed Till January 8

In view of the intense cold wave and plunging temperatures across Jharkhand, the state government has ordered the closure of all schools till January 8, 2026, to ensure the safety and well-being of students. The Education Department issued a fresh official notification on Monday, extending the earlier decision to shut schools on January 4 and 5.

According to the order, all government and private schools, including aided and minority institutions, will remain closed for students from pre-nursery and nursery to Class 12 between January 6 and January 8. The decision comes amid severe cold conditions prevailing in several parts of the state, posing health risks especially to young children.

Officials said the move will provide much-needed relief to students and parents as cold wave conditions continue to grip Jharkhand. The order has been implemented with immediate effect following approval from the departmental secretary.

Teachers to Attend Schools

While classes for students will remain suspended, teachers and non-teaching staff of government schools are required to report to duty. They will mark their attendance and utilize the period to complete pending non-academic and administrative work.

Pre-Board Exams: Decision Left to School Management

For schools where pre-board examinations were already scheduled during this period, the Education Department has given flexibility to school authorities. The respective school managements may decide whether to conduct or postpone the examinations, based on prevailing conditions and feasibility.

The state administration has emphasized that the decision prioritizes student safety amid extreme weather conditions. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and may issue further instructions if the cold wave persists.

The closure reflects the government’s proactive approach to safeguarding children during harsh winter conditions, as Jharkhand continues to experience one of its coldest spells of the season.
