Severe Cold Grips Rajasthan After Rain and Hailstorm; Mount Abu Hits Minus 7°C

Jaipur: Rajasthan is witnessing a sharp drop in temperatures following recent storms, rain, and hailstorms across the state. The cold wave has intensified, affecting daily life in several districts. Mount Abu, the state’s only hill station, recorded a chilling minus 7°C, marking the season’s lowest temperature.

Impact Across the State

The Rajasthan Meteorological Department reported extreme cold and severe cold wave conditions over the past 24 hours. Some areas, including Bharatpur, received light rain, while hailstorms were reported in other districts. Post-rain, the cold winds further intensified the chill.

Mount Abu Registers Lowest Temperature

Mount Abu recorded -7°C on Friday night, the lowest of the current winter season. On Saturday morning, thick layers of frost were observed at several locations. The cold wave’s effect has extended to the plains as well.

Frost in Fields, Daytime Temperature Plummets

Districts such as Sikar, Barmer, and Jaisalmer reported frost covering farmland. According to the meteorological department, daytime temperatures in most parts of the state fell by approximately 10°C, raising concerns about possible damage to standing crops.

Minimum Temperatures in Key Cities

In the past 24 hours, several cities recorded near-zero minimum temperatures:

  • Loonkaransar: 0.3°C
  • Nagaur: 0.5°C
  • Mount Abu: 0.6°C
  • Fatehpur: 2.3°C
  • Pali: 2.9°C
  • Sikar: 3.2°C
  • Shri Ganganagar: 3.5°C
  • Sirohi: 4°C
  • Jaisalmer: 4.5°C
  • Jhunjhunu: 5.6°C

Cold Winds in Jaipur and Surrounding Districts

The state capital Jaipur recorded a maximum of 20.6°C and a minimum of 9.4°C. Cold winds continued throughout the morning in Jaipur, Dausa, Alwar, and nearby districts, compelling residents to stay indoors.

Weather Forecast

According to the Meteorological Center, the weather is expected to remain mainly clear on January 24 and 25. However, a new Western Disturbance may become active on January 26-27, bringing chances of storms and rain in parts of the state, along with dense fog in several areas.

The combination of rain, hail, and subsequent cold waves has created challenging conditions for residents, farmers, and travelers across Rajasthan.
