
New Delhi/Unnao: Kuldeep Singh Sengar, currently serving a sentence in the Unnao gangrape case, faced a setback on Monday when the Delhi High Court dismissed his plea seeking suspension of the 10-year sentence awarded in the case of the death of the victim’s father.
Justice Ravinder Dudeja observed that Sengar has already spent over seven and a half years in custody out of the total 10-year sentence. The delay in deciding his appeal against the sentence, the court noted, was partly caused by Sengar himself, as he had filed multiple applications seeking relief. Consequently, his plea for bail and suspension of the sentence was rejected.
Challenge to Trial Court Verdict
In 2017, the trial court had sentenced Sengar to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10 lakh for the death of the victim’s father while in police custody. Sengar had approached the High Court on March 13, 2020, seeking to overturn
