Panic gripped parts of Gorakhpur district on Friday morning after the naked body of an unidentified woman was discovered near the Bayer Ghatta bridge under the Pipiganj police station area.
According to police sources, the deceased woman is believed to be around 35 years old. Her body was found without clothes, and her head had been brutally crushed with bricks, indicating a violent murder.
Local residents who had gone out for their morning walk first noticed the body lying near the bridge and immediately informed the police. Upon receiving the information, a police team rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the attacker may have deliberately inflicted severe injuries on the head to conceal the woman’s identity. Villagers stated that the woman did not appear to be from any nearby locality.
Senior Police Officials Inspect Crime Scene
Soon after the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Rajkaran Nair and SP North Gyanendra Kumar arrived at the scene along with police personnel, a forensic team, and a dog squad.
The dog squad reportedly tracked a trail for nearly 200 meters before returning, while the forensic team collected crucial evidence from the spot and sent samples for laboratory examination.
Investigators also found drag marks near the body, raising suspicion that the woman may have been murdered at another location and her body dumped near the bridge to mislead the investigation.
Post-Mortem Underway, Identity Yet to Be Established
The body has been taken into police custody and sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and time of death. Efforts are underway to establish the identity of the deceased through nearby police stations and missing persons records.
SP North Gyanendra Kumar stated that the police are probing the case from all possible angles and assured that the crime would be solved soon.
The incident has once again raised concerns over women’s safety and has caused fear among residents in the surrounding areas.
