Senior-Level Changes Likely in Delhi Police; Multiple IPS Officers Eye District Commands

Delhi Police is on the verge of major reshuffles at the senior level. With Additional CP Nidhin Wolson of the Central District going on medical leave, Anant Mittal has been given the charge of the district in an acting capacity. Rumors of changes at the Special CP and Joint CP levels are also making rounds. Several IPS and DANIPS officers are now eyeing key district commands.

Awaiting Transfer Orders
New Delhi: Orders for the impending senior-level reshuffle in Delhi Police have not yet been released, keeping IPS and DANIPS officers on tenterhooks. Many officers have already prepared for transfers, but the final posting list is yet to be announced.

Additional CP Nidhin Wolson, who currently heads the Central District, has gone on leave for medical treatment. Consequently, the Police Commissioner’s Secretariat issued orders on Wednesday night appointing North District Additional DCP Anant Mittal as the acting head of the Central District. Rumors suggest that changes at the Special CP and Joint CP levels may also follow.

Wolson’s Recent Promotion and Health Battle
Wolson, a 2012-batch IPS officer from Kerala, has previously served as DCP of Outer North District and was assigned Central District in May 2025. He is among the IPS officers recently promoted to the DIG rank. Wolson has battled cancer twice, first being diagnosed with Stage-4 cancer. In June 2024, he underwent a bone marrow transplant at AIIMS. He chronicled his journey of recovery in his book “Cancerman to Ironman: A Police Officer’s Journey of Arresting Illness.”

Anant Mittal Takes Charge of Central District
Sources reveal that Wolson’s recent medical treatment necessitated his leave, delaying the transfer-posting list. With Republic Day preparations underway, the Central District required immediate supervision. Accordingly, Additional DCP Anant Mittal of North District was assigned to head the district in an acting capacity.

Given the importance of the North District during the Republic Day period, Additional CP Sumit Jha of South District has been moved there. Mittal, a 2015-batch IPS officer, was already a strong contender for the South District DCP post. Another dynamic DCP, previously eyeing South District, now sees a clear path ahead. Officers arriving from outside Delhi may have to wait for their chance to command a district.
