Security Tightened in Sarojini Nagar Market After Delhi Blast; Closure of Three Gates Creates Chaos

New Delhi:
Following the suicide attack near the Red Fort, security has been intensified across major markets in the capital. In Sarojini Nagar Market, police have barricaded and closed three entry gates, creating inconvenience for shoppers, traders, and residents. The situation led to a protest by traders on Thursday, demanding that the gates be reopened.

Security Measures Increase, But Trouble for Public
In the aftermath of the Red Fort blast, police have enforced strict security checks in Sarojini Nagar Market. However, several metal detectors at the entry points were found non-functional, and with three gates — Gate 2A, Gate 1A, and Gate 2 — shut by the police, movement has become difficult for thousands who rely on these access points daily.

Residents and shopkeepers report that customers are now climbing over barricades to enter the market, causing safety concerns and adding to the chaos.

Traders Stage Protest
The Sarojini Nagar Market Traders’ Association staged a protest on Thursday, raising concerns over the inconvenience caused by the gate closures. While the enhanced security measures have cleared illegal encroachments and eased internal movement within the market, the blocked entry points have created new challenges.

The association claims that around 50 households, along with shopkeepers and customers, are facing daily disruptions. Despite repeated appeals to the police to reopen the gates, no action has been taken so far. Posters protesting the closure were also put up around the market.

Metal Detectors Repaired by Traders
According to the association, several metal detectors at the market entrance were either malfunctioning or turned off. On Thursday, the traders themselves arranged for repairs and placed two private security guards at the entry point to ensure proper screening and maintain safety standards inside the market.
