Mumbai: A controversy has erupted following the conclusion of a two-day event in Mumbai commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Social media criticism intensified after prominent guests, including singer Adnan Sami, were seen in the company of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, under the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray, sharply criticized Bhagwat for having breakfast with Sami. Raut alleged that the RSS chief was sitting with the son of a man who had reportedly bombed India, questioning the nationalist credentials of the Sangh chief.
Allegations Over Adnan Sami’s Family Background
Raut highlighted Adnan Sami’s family history, pointing out that Sami’s father, Arshad Sami Khan, was a pilot in the Pakistan Air Force and had played a role in attacks on India, including the Pathankot Airbase incident. “Seeing his son sharing a meal with the RSS chief is deeply disturbing,” Raut said.
In response, Adnan Sami shared photographs of himself with Mohan Bhagwat, describing the meeting as a “wonderful afternoon” and praising Bhagwat for clarifying misunderstandings and sharing his perspective. Sami called Bhagwat “an incredible gentleman and a beautiful soul.”
Celebrity Attendance at Centenary Event
The RSS centenary celebrations also saw attendance from several Bollywood celebrities, including Salman Khan, Shilpa Shetty, and Rupaali Ganguly, drawing media attention. However, Raut focused on Sami’s presence with Bhagwat, claiming it sent the wrong message to the nation and reflected poorly on the RSS’s character. The Congress party echoed the criticism, terming the event “anti-national” on social media.
