Sambhal: In a major disciplinary action, Sambhal Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Bishnoi has suspended the entire Special Operations Group (SOG) team, including its in-charge, following serious allegations of extortion.
A total of eight police personnel, including the SOG in-charge, have been placed under suspension after a scrap dealer accused them of illegally collecting Rs 30,000 and seizing scrap material.
Scrap Dealer Alleges Illegal Detention and Extortion
According to reports, a scrap dealer Zafaruddin, a resident of Bilari in Moradabad, was travelling with his son Aas Mohammad on the night of February 2, carrying scrap material consisting of mobile phone plates, towards Ladum Sarai in Sambhal.
During the journey, the SOG team allegedly stopped their motorcycle and took both father and son to the Chaudhary Sarai police outpost under the Sambhal Kotwali jurisdiction.
Rs 30,000 Collected for Release
The complainant alleged that the SOG personnel demanded and collected Rs 30,000 in exchange for releasing them. It was further claimed that the team also kept the metal extracted from melted mobile phone plates, which the scrap dealer said belonged to him.
After being released at night, the father and son reportedly contacted the SOG team again on February 3, requesting the return of the seized metal.
Further Demand of Rs 40,000 for Returning Metal
The scrap dealer alleged that the SOG team demanded an additional Rs 40,000 to return the metal, which was equal to its total market value. Following this, the matter was reported to the Superintendent of Police.
Inquiry Confirms Allegations
After an inquiry, the allegations were reportedly found to be true, leading to immediate disciplinary action.
SP Krishna Kumar Bishnoi confirmed that the suspended personnel include SOG in-charge SI Mohit Chaudhary, Head Constables Kulwant and Arshad, and Constables Ajnabi, Ayush, Vivek, Brijesh, and Hiresh.
New SOG In-Charge Appointed
Following the suspension of the team, Bobindra Sharma has been appointed as the new SOG in-charge.
The incident has sparked serious concerns regarding misuse of authority, and further departmental proceedings are expected in the matter.
