Saharanpur: In a tragic incident in Kaushik Vihar Colony, collector Amin Ashok Rathi fatally shot his mother, Vidyavati, his wife, Anjita, and their two sons, Kartik and Dev, on Monday night before taking his own life. Investigations reveal that Ashok had been struggling with depression for a prolonged period. Shocking details have also emerged about his past behavior.
According to family sources, Ashok had previously attempted to kill his entire family a year ago by administering sleeping pills. Thankfully, everyone survived that incident. Reports also suggest that he had attempted suicide during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Suspicious Circumstances
Anjita’s brother, Rahul, stated that the family members appeared to have been drugged or given sleeping pills before being shot, as all were found lying in their beds without signs of struggle. This aligns with the previous incident, which had made the family cautious.
Ongoing Mental Health Treatment
Neighbors reported that Ashok had shown signs of severe mental distress for several days. He was undergoing treatment in Chandigarh. Adding to the tragedy, Ashok’s father, Surendra Singh, had died under suspicious circumstances just five to six days before his retirement, approximately three and a half years ago.
No Work Pressure or Family Conflict
Colleagues of Ashok mentioned that he was a reserved individual focused solely on his work. The murder-suicide is baffling, as there were no indications of professional pressure or family disputes that could have triggered such an extreme act.
