SAHARANPUR: A heartwarming wedding in Deendarpur village, Nanota region, Saharanpur, has set a remarkable social example by rejecting the age-old dowry practice. Rajneesh Nagar, an Audit Officer at the CAG Ministry, tied the knot with Manisha from Ghaziabad on November 22, leaving both families and the local community inspired by his principled stand.
Rajneesh, originally from Saharanpur and currently posted in Nagpur, was offered gifts and a substantial dowry by the bride’s family, as per tradition. However, he firmly declined all material offerings, stating that marriage is a union of two families and not a transaction. Symbolically, he accepted only ₹1 and a coconut as a token of auspiciousness.
Bride’s Family Applauds Groom’s Stand
The decision was fully supported by Rajneesh’s father, Ranjit Singh, a long-time advocate against dowry, who believes that such practices hollow out society. The bride’s family also welcomed this gesture, agreeing to a simple, dowry-free wedding.
Village Residents and Youth Praise the Gesture
The wedding ceremony was conducted with minimal expenditure, without lavish decorations or extravagance, focusing solely on traditions, customs, and cultural values. Local villagers, social workers, and youth lauded Rajneesh for taking a strong stance against dowry. They emphasized that when educated youth lead by example, meaningful social change begins.
A Strong Message Against Dowry
Manisha’s friend highlighted that dowry-related crimes, harassment, and social tension remain significant issues in Indian society. The couple’s simple and principled wedding sends a powerful message that the essence of marriage lies not in material exchange but in shared values, respect, and mutual understanding. This event stands as an inspiring model for the younger generation and for society at large.
