Runaway JCB Crushes University Bus on Bhopal Road, Major Tragedy Averted

A major tragedy was narrowly avoided on Bhadbhada Road in Bhopal on Monday evening when an out-of-control JCB machine rolled backward on a slope and rammed into a university bus, leaving the vehicle badly mangled and its driver critically injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the JCB suddenly lost control while moving downhill and began reversing at high speed. The heavy machine smashed into a bus belonging to Jagran Lakecity University, which was following behind. The impact was so severe that the iron claw of the JCB pierced through the bus’s windshield and reached the driver’s cabin, crushing the front portion of the bus.

Scenes of Panic and Destruction

The violent collision sent shockwaves through the area. Onlookers were left stunned as the bus was twisted like a toy under the force of the impact. The bus driver was trapped in his seat, bleeding profusely from severe injuries. Panic gripped the road as people rushed to help, and traffic came to a complete standstill for hours.

Fortunately, the bus was returning after dropping students and was mostly empty at the time of the accident. Only two faculty members and staff were on board, both of whom escaped unhurt. Authorities said that had the bus been full of students, the incident could have resulted in massive loss of life.

Driver Critical, Investigation Underway

The injured driver was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors described his condition as critical. University officials confirmed the incident and expressed relief that no students were present on the bus.

Police reached the spot soon after the accident and began an investigation. Officials are examining whether the incident was caused by technical failure in the JCB machine or negligence on the part of its operator. The damaged vehicles were later removed to clear the road and restore traffic movement.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns about safety norms and the operation of heavy construction machinery on busy city roads, especially in high-traffic areas.
