Sukma, Chhattisgarh: In a heartening initiative, the 150th Battalion of the CRPF has established a Gurukul in the Naxal-affected village of Purvti, the hometown of notorious Naxal leader Hidma. The school, currently educating around 60 children, is entirely free, providing uniforms, textbooks, modern playground facilities, and teachers’ salaries fully supported by the CRPF.
Education Meets Security
The Gurukul is not just a center for learning but also a beacon of hope and transformation. CRPF personnel are going beyond their traditional security role, guiding children in both education and values. The initiative is steadily building interest in learning among local children, while parents are encouraged to send their children regularly to school.
Teacher Salaries and Facilities Fully Funded by CRPF
Second-in-Command Hamid Khan of the 150th Battalion stated that children from nearby villages attend the Gurukul. “We also ensure qualified teachers are available, and their salaries are paid by us. The number of children enrolled has been steadily increasing over the past year,” he said.
Impact Beyond Education
The Gurukul initiative is fostering development and peace in a region long affected by Naxal activities. Besides spreading education, it is encouraging integration into mainstream society and strengthening the mindset for surrender and rehabilitation among Naxals.
A Village with a Naxal Legacy
Purvti, located in Konta block of Sukma district, is a known Naxal stronghold and home to dreaded leaders like Hidma and Deva. Alongside the Gurukul, CRPF has also established a security camp in the village, ensuring a safe environment for children to learn and grow.
This initiative showcases a rare example of security forces actively promoting education and social transformation in conflict-affected areas.
