Dehradun, Uttarakhand: Frustrated with unannounced power cuts in his constituency, Congress MLA Virendra Jati took the unprecedented step of cutting electricity at the residences of several officials from the State Electricity Corporation.
Action Taken by MLA
Virendra Jati, representing the Jhabreda Assembly in Haridwar, had earlier met with electricity department officials to raise concerns about frequent unscheduled power cuts, highlighting the difficulties faced by residents. When the officials failed to take corrective measures, the MLA personally went to the residences of the Chief Engineer, Executive Engineer, and other officials, disconnecting their electricity connections. The action caused a stir in the local area.
Reason Behind the Action
MLA Jati emphasized that unscheduled power cuts, especially during morning and evening hours, severely disrupt the daily lives of residents. He expressed anger over the installation of smart meters, stating that despite the Chief Minister’s directive to prevent electricity disruptions, the department was attempting meter installations through awareness camps, which he vowed would not succeed.
The MLA warned that if the officials continued to ignore public inconvenience, they too would face the consequences, and today, he acted on that warning by disconnecting their power connections.
Public and Political Implications
The bold move by MLA Virendra Jati has drawn attention across the constituency, highlighting the rising frustration among local residents over persistent electricity supply issues.
