“Robber Bride” Escapes with Gold and Jewelry After Alleged Attempted Poisoning of Husband in Indore

Indore, February 21, 2026: A shocking case of marital fraud and attempted murder has emerged in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, involving a matrimonial scam that left authorities investigating a married woman and her accomplice.

The Incident

According to police, Neelima Sengar from Jalaun, Uttar Pradesh, allegedly presented herself as a divorced woman on a matrimonial website and married a local lawyer in Indore in November 2024. Following the marriage, Neelima reportedly introduced her boyfriend, Shubham Sengar, to her husband as her brother and allowed him access to their home.

The situation took a dangerous turn when Neelima allegedly planned a trip to Shillong under the pretext of leisure. During the visit, she is accused of adding a poisonous substance to food, which caused her husband to fall seriously ill. He survived the attempt and returned to Indore, raising suspicions about his wife’s intentions.

Discovery of the Scheme

Upon returning, the lawyer obtained documents related to Neelima’s prior divorce, which revealed that Shubham—whom she had presented as her brother—was, in fact, her romantic partner. Confrontations followed, and shortly thereafter, Neelima allegedly fled the home with approximately 25 tolas of gold and other valuable items.

Police Action

Based on the complaint, Khudail Police Station registered a case against Neelima Sengar and Shubham Sengar under Sections 318(4), 303(2), and 61(2) of the Indian Penal Code, 2023. Authorities confirmed that both accused are currently at large and a search is underway.

Summary of Allegations

  1. Neelima misrepresented herself as divorced to marry an Indore-based lawyer.
  2. She allowed her boyfriend to reside in her husband’s home, presenting him as her brother.
  3. She allegedly attempted to poison her husband during a trip to Shillong.
  4. Investigations revealed her prior fraudulent marriage and the true nature of her relationship with Shubham.
  5. Fearing exposure, Neelima reportedly absconded with gold and other valuables, prompting a police manhunt.

Authorities continue to investigate the case, which has drawn comparisons to other high-profile matrimonial frauds due to its scale and audacity.
