
Rishikesh: A thrilling adventure turned into a nightmare for a tourist from Gurgaon when a bungee cord snapped during a jump near Shivpuri, Rishikesh, on Wednesday, 12 November. The incident, captured on video and widely circulated online, has raised serious concerns about safety standards at the adventure facility.
According to police reports, 26-year-old Sonu Kumar sustained severe injuries after falling from a considerable height. He was immediately admitted to AIIMS Rishikesh, where medical examination revealed fractures in several ribs and his left arm. Hospital authorities have confirmed that his condition is stable and no longer critical.
Group Trip Ends in Shock
Kumar was visiting Rishikesh with four friends—Vikram, Rajesh, Akshay, and Rajkumar—when the accident occurred. Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident. The District Tourism Development Officer, S.S. Rana, stated that the “Apara Amusement Thrill Factory” adventure facility has been ordered to suspend all bungee jumping activities with immediate effect.
Safety Concerns Under Scrutiny
The viral footage shows the bungee cord unexpectedly snapping while Kumar was mid-air, causing him to fall onto a nearby rooftop. Online users and visitors have criticized the negligence of the bungee jumping center. The tourism department is now reviewing all safety protocols at the site to prevent future mishaps.
The incident highlights the need for strict adherence to safety standards in adventure tourism, especially in popular tourist destinations like Rishikesh.
