Gorakhpur: A shocking criminal case has come to light in Gorakhpur, where a young woman, armed with a revolver, has been arrested for shooting a man and blackmailing over 150 people, including 12 police officers. The accused, identified as Anshika Singh, has now been sent to jail while authorities continue their search for her accomplices.
Incident at Cantt Area
The drama unfolded on Tuesday evening in Cantt police station jurisdiction, when Singh, celebrating her birthday with five friends at a local model shop, got into a confrontation with a private hospital manager. She allegedly demanded ₹20,000 from him and threatened to falsely implicate him in a rape case. During a scuffle, she fired a revolver, injuring the manager’s associate, Amitabh, in the abdomen. Immediate police action led to her arrest along with two of her associates, while the remaining accomplices remain at large.
Modus Operandi: Blackmail and Extortion
Police investigations revealed a sophisticated extortion racket:
- Singh would obtain mobile numbers via social media messengers
- She conducted video calls to secretly record nude videos of her targets
- These videos were then used to blackmail victims for money
Victims include 12 police personnel and other prominent individuals. Singh had even maintained explicit videos of some officers for extortion purposes.
Criminal Record and Charges
Anshika Singh hails from Harpur Budhat and currently resides in a rented flat in Singhadia. Police reports indicate:
- Cases already exist against her in Sant Kabir Nagar
- Linked to vehicle theft in Delhi (a Thar SUV)
- Current charges include violations under POSCO Act, Arms Act Section 307, and extortion
Authorities are intensifying efforts to arrest all her accomplices.
Official Statement
SP City Abhinav Tyagi confirmed, “Anshika Singh’s criminal network was extensive. She exploited technology and social media to trap her victims. Our priority is to apprehend all her associates and ensure justice for those affected.”
This case has shocked Gorakhpur and raised concerns over social media misuse, blackmail, and criminal infiltration into law enforcement circles.
