Raipur, January 6, 2026: In a shocking medical incident, a local shopkeeper in Raipur narrowly escaped death when a major artery in his neck suddenly ruptured while he was brushing his teeth. The rare condition, which has been reported only 10 times worldwide, required immediate emergency intervention to save his life.
According to reports, the man was brushing his teeth on Tuesday morning when he felt a sudden, sharp pain in his neck. Within moments, his neck began to swell rapidly, and he collapsed, unconscious. His family rushed him without delay to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, where doctors immediately began emergency treatment.
Doctors Acted Swiftly
A CT angiography revealed that his right carotid artery had ruptured, forming a balloon-like structure around it—a highly dangerous condition that could have proven fatal in minutes. Given the severity, the hospital’s Heart, Chest, and Vascular Surgery team performed a complex surgery to repair the artery. Thanks to their prompt action and expertise, the patient survived.
Extremely Rare Case
Medical experts stated that such an occurrence is extraordinarily rare, with only 10 cases documented worldwide to date. The Raipur case has drawn attention not only for its rarity but also for the successful handling under extreme circumstances.
Doctors have warned that sudden swelling in the neck, severe pain, dizziness, or fainting should never be ignored. Immediate medical attention at a major hospital can be life-saving in such rare but critical situations.
