Ranthambore Rules Ignored Again: Youths Risk Lives for Tiger Selfie

Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan: In a reckless display of disregard for wildlife safety, some visitors at Ranthambore Tiger Reserve ventured out of their safari vehicle into the jungle to click photos—and even took a selfie with a tiger. A video of the incident quickly went viral, prompting the forest department to launch an investigation.

Repeated Violations Raise Concerns

Ranthambore has witnessed several such violations in the past. Months ago, a local worker stepped out of a safari vehicle and came dangerously close to a tiger, resulting in an attack and injuries. Despite these incidents, tourists continue to risk their lives and disturb the animals.

Controversial Photos Deleted

The viral images triggered public outrage and criticism of the forest department’s monitoring. Though the photos were later deleted from social media, many had already captured screenshots.

Forest Department Response

Ranthambore Tiger Reserve’s DFO Ramanand Bhakar took immediate notice, handing the matter to the Khanda Range Regional Forest Officer Shailesh Kumar. The youth had taken photos at Pret Baba, where a tiger was moving, using a government-provided safari vehicle.

Strict Warnings Issued

Authorities have warned all involved to strictly adhere to forest and wildlife protection rules, cautioning that such behavior will not be tolerated. The forest department has urged visitors to respect wildlife and maintain safe distances to prevent accidents.
