Ranchi, Jan 31: In a major crackdown on traffic violations, Ranchi Traffic Police have seized and destroyed over 700 modified silencers and pressure horns installed in motorcycles and cars, officials said on Saturday. The action was part of a special campaign against vehicles creating excessive noise and violating traffic regulations.
During the operation, approximately 500 modified silencers and over 250 pressure horns were confiscated and completely destroyed using a bulldozer at the Ranchi Police Lines. The campaign also resulted in fines and challans issued to more than 700 vehicle owners for violating traffic rules.
Traffic rules violation and public nuisance
According to Ranchi Traffic SP Rakesh Singh, installing modified silencers or pressure horns on vehicles is a clear violation of traffic laws. Such devices produce extremely loud noise, causing inconvenience and distress to residents, elderly citizens, children, and patients. “After receiving multiple complaints from the public, the traffic police launched this extensive drive. Within just one month, we confiscated over 700 such devices, which were subsequently destroyed using bulldozers,” he said.
Expansion of campaign to rural areas
SP Singh added that the campaign will now extend to rural areas to ensure a quieter and safer environment. During the drive, other prohibited lighting equipment that could distract drivers was also removed and destroyed.
Noise pollution a public health concern
Authorities emphasized that the high-decibel sound from modified silencers and pressure horns not only violates traffic laws but also negatively affects the well-being of residents, including children, the elderly, and patients. The traffic department has urged vehicle owners to refrain from using such illegal equipment to ensure safety and reduce noise pollution.
This operation underscores the Ranchi Traffic Police’s commitment to enforcing traffic rules and promoting public safety, sending a clear message that violations will not be tolerated.
