
Ranchi, 1 Dec 2025: In a tragic incident, Shankar Narayan P. Badri (69), the owner of the popular Kuppuswami restaurant in Ranchi, was found dead at his residence in Jagatpuram on Monday morning. Preliminary reports suggest that he may have taken his own life.
Suspected Suicide Due to Financial Stress
Police officials stated that Shankar Narayan, originally from Kerala, was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in one of the rooms of his home. The Kanke Police, led by Officer-in-Charge Prakash Rajak, confirmed that the incident appears to be linked to severe financial stress. Initial investigations indicate that Narayan was suffering from depression due to a heavy debt burden. Authorities are currently searching for a suicide note to confirm the circumstances.
Family Business Background
Shankar Narayan belonged to a family involved in the hotel and restaurant business in Ranchi. His elder brother owns a hotel on Hazaribagh Road. According to his brother Velai, Shankar often visited Kerala for annual temple rituals with his family, but he did not go this year due to financial pressures.
Personal Life and Family
Shankar Narayan had been married twice. His first wife passed away ten years ago, leaving him with two sons. He remarried six years ago, and his second marriage did not produce children. The family has indicated that mounting debts were a major factor contributing to his depression and suspected suicide.
The Ranchi Police are continuing their investigation to ascertain the exact cause of death and collect further evidence.
