Mathura:
The Mathura police have cracked a sensational murder case involving the killing of a woman in the Ranchi Bangar area, arresting her husband and his criminal associate following a late-night police encounter. One of the accused was injured in the encounter and has been admitted to the district hospital for treatment.
According to police officials, the body of an unidentified woman, around 40 years old, was found in a wheat field along the Karnawal Road in Ranchi Bangar under the Refinery police station area on December 28, 2025. The discovery had triggered panic in the locality. The police took the body into custody and launched an intensive investigation.
Using CCTV footage and technical evidence, investigators identified the deceased as Anita, wife of Rakesh, a resident of Fatehpura under Baldev police station limits.
Police Encounter on Bareilly Highway Bypass
Acting on precise intelligence from an informer, a Refinery police team laid a trap near the Bareilly Highway Bypass late on Monday night. When the suspects realized they were surrounded, they opened fire on the police team. In retaliatory action, Lalit alias Mangal was shot in the leg and injured. Both accused—Rakesh, the husband of the deceased, and his accomplice Lalit—were arrested from the spot.
Murder Planned and Executed Together
During interrogation, police revealed that Rakesh had conspired with his friend Lalit to murder his wife. On the night of December 27, the two took Anita to a deserted wheat field on Ranchi Bangar Road, where she was strangled using the strip attached to the collar of Lalit’s jacket. After killing her, the accused dumped the body in the field to destroy evidence and fled the scene.
Accomplice a History-Sheeter
Police said Lalit alias Mangal is a notorious history-sheeter, with 19 serious criminal cases registered against him across various police stations in Mathura, including charges of robbery, attempt to murder, theft, violations of the Arms Act and the Goonda Act. Rakesh, too, has criminal cases registered against him, including murder and police encounter-related offences.
Weapons and Vehicle Recovered
The police recovered a numberless HF Deluxe motorcycle, a .315 bore country-made pistol, two live cartridges, and one spent cartridge from the accused.
Officials credited the successful operation to the coordinated efforts of Station House Officer Ajay Kaushal, Cyber Cell In-charge Ashish Kumar, Sub-Inspector Lokendra Singh, Rohit Ujjwal, and their team.
The case has once again highlighted the effectiveness of technical surveillance and swift police action in solving serious crimes.
