Jaipur: Following the tragic dumper accident in Jaipur, the Rajasthan Transport Department has intensified its statewide road safety campaign, leading to a massive crackdown on traffic violations. Within just five days, officials have revoked 206 driving licenses, seized 400 vehicles, and issued more than 8,500 challans. The campaign is being conducted under the direct supervision and instructions of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.
The state government launched this strict road safety drive from November 4 to November 18, focusing on curbing reckless driving and ensuring public safety. Police and transport teams are stationed on all major highways and city routes, checking vehicles and penalizing violators. Officials have warned that merely paying fines will not suffice — repeated offenders may face license suspension or cancellation.
Massive Enforcement in Action
The statistics from the past five days highlight the seriousness of the campaign:
- 3,736 drivers penalized for drunk driving
- 21,911 fined for over-speeding
- 15,174 booked for wrong-side driving
- 1,586 for dangerous driving
- 4,311 for vehicles without reflectors
- 8,585 for vehicles without number plates
In addition, 400 vehicles have been seized and 206 driving licenses permanently cancelled.
Bus Operators Under Scanner
The transport department has also taken a strict stance against private buses endangering passenger safety. Recent fatal accidents in Jaisalmer, Phalodi, and Jaipur prompted a detailed inspection of passenger vehicles.
In the past five days alone:
- 22 vehicle permits have been cancelled
- 574 overloaded vehicles were fined
- 216 goods carriers caught carrying passengers faced action
- 106 vehicles penalized for carrying excess passengers
- 21 buses fined for carrying luggage on rooftops
- 1,033 passenger vehicles booked for other violations
- 38 vehicle registrations have also been revoked
Authorities emphasized that the campaign aims not only at punishment but also public awareness. Motorists are urged to strictly follow traffic norms, as enforcement teams continue surprise inspections across Rajasthan.
Officials added that this initiative marks one of the most comprehensive road safety drives in the state’s history, aiming to reduce accidents and save lives on Rajasthan’s roads.
