Sikar, Rajasthan: In a daring film-style robbery, two young men made off with gold jewelry worth ₹10 lakh from a shop in Khandela Bazaar, Shrimadhopur, in just two and a half minutes. The incident occurred at Hardwarilal Tejpal Jewellers, and CCTV footage captured the audacious act.
How the Heist Unfolded:
The two men arrived on a bike wearing caps. One entered the shop while the other stayed outside keeping watch. Inside, the robber presented himself as a government official and told shopkeeper Omprakash Soni, “It’s my niece’s birthday; show me something nice in the 15–20 thousand range.”
Using the pretext of checking designs and asking about prices, he engaged the shopkeeper in conversation. Meanwhile, he swiftly covered several gold rings (82 grams in total) with a handkerchief and slipped them into his pocket, casually remarking, “Not satisfied, will see later,” before leaving. The accomplice started the bike, and both fled the scene.
Fast and Precise:
The entire theft lasted just 2 minutes and 32 seconds. Shopkeeper Omprakash realized the jewelry was missing after counting them post the customer’s exit. CCTV footage confirmed the robbery, creating panic in the local market.
Police Response:
Thana officer Vijay Singh reached the site immediately, seized the CCTV footage, and put surrounding shops and city exit points on alert. Police are now working to identify the two ‘cap-wearing’ thieves and trace their location.
This audacious robbery has left the market on edge, highlighting the need for enhanced vigilance in busy commercial areas.
