Congress Appoints India’s Youngest Woman MP Sanjana Jatav as In-Charge of Madhya Pradesh

The Congress high command has entrusted Sanjana Jatav, India’s youngest woman Member of Parliament from Rajasthan, with a major organizational role. The Dholpur–Bharatpur MP has been appointed as the party in-charge for Madhya Pradesh, marking a significant step in her political journey.

Alongside Jatav, former minister Rehana Riaz Chishti has been appointed as the Congress in-charge for Maharashtra. Both leaders are considered close confidantes of Priyanka Gandhi, and their elevation is being viewed as a sign of the party’s growing confidence in its young and dynamic women leaders. The appointment orders were officially issued by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday.

Who is Sanjana Jatav – India’s Youngest Woman MP?

Sanjana Jatav created history by becoming the youngest woman MP in India at the age of 25. She won the Dholpur–Bharatpur seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by defeating BJP’s Shailendra Singh with a margin of 51,983 votes. Her victory celebrations, which went viral due to her energetic dance performance, made her a social media sensation.

Jatav was previously appointed as a member of the Water Resources Committee, and her consistent grassroots connection and popularity among youth leaders brought her into the national spotlight. Her appointment as Madhya Pradesh in-charge is seen as both a reward and a challenge — given her limited political experience but strong leadership potential.

Political observers link her rapid rise to her close ties with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Sachin Pilot, both of whom have backed her since her student politics days.

Rehana Riaz Chishti Appointed as Maharashtra In-Charge

Former Rajasthan Minister Rehana Riaz Chishti has also been given a crucial role as the Maharashtra Congress in-charge. A seasoned politician, Chishti has served as the Chairperson of the Rajasthan Women’s Commission and has held key positions in the AICC as a national secretary.

Congress Strengthens Its State Leadership

With these appointments, the Congress leadership aims to rejuvenate its organizational strength through young and experienced female leaders. The party has also made fresh in-charge appointments for Gujarat and Punjab, signaling a broader restructuring ahead of the upcoming elections.
