Rajasthan Weather Update:
With cold winds sweeping in from northern India, Rajasthan is reeling under an intensified cold wave. Following unseasonal rains earlier this week, temperatures have plummeted sharply across the state, pushing minimum readings in six major cities below 10°C. According to the Meteorological Department, the chill is expected to deepen in the coming days.
Nagaur Shivers at 6.5°C — Coldest Night in the State
Nagaur recorded the lowest temperature of the season at 6.5°C, surpassing even the usually cold Shekhawati region. Sikar and Dausa followed closely with minimum temperatures of 7.2°C and 7.7°C, respectively. The cold spell has tightened its grip, making early mornings and late nights particularly harsh.
Night Temperatures Fall 9°C Below Normal
While daytime temperatures have also seen a noticeable decline, the drop during nighttime has been far steeper. The biting northwesterly winds have compounded the chill, causing temperatures to plunge several degrees below normal.
Ajmer witnessed a minimum temperature nearly 9.8°C below average, while Jaipur recorded 3.6°C below normal. Kota and Jodhpur also reported significant drops, recording 5.0°C and 5.2°C below the seasonal average, respectively.
Persistent Cold Winds Drive Mercury Down
According to weather officials, the persistent flow of icy winds from the Himalayan region is the main reason behind the continued fall in temperatures. With skies clearing after the rains, rapid heat loss during the night has further intensified the cold. The department has issued an advisory urging residents to take precautions, especially during the early morning hours.
