Big Relief for Rajasthan Households! Power Bills up to 150 Units Now ‘Zero’ — 7.7 Million Homes to Shine Under PM Surya Ghar Scheme

Jaipur | Rajasthan Power Update:
In a landmark move benefiting millions of families, the Rajasthan government has announced that households consuming up to 150 units of electricity per month will now receive ‘zero’ electricity bills under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This initiative, backed by both central and state support, is expected to directly benefit over 77 lakh domestic consumers across the state.

₹50,000 Subsidy on Solar Installation — Here’s How to Avail It

To take advantage of this golden opportunity, eligible consumers must register through the Rajasthan DISCOM website or the ‘Bijli Mitra’ mobile app. After registration, they can log on to the National PM Surya Ghar Portal, select an authorized vendor, and install a minimum 1.1 kW rooftop solar panel system on their home.

The government has made solar adoption highly affordable — the central government will provide a ₹33,000 subsidy, while the Rajasthan government will contribute an additional ₹17,000, bringing the total subsidy to ₹50,000 per consumer. For larger installations of up to 3 kW, a maximum central assistance of ₹78,000 has been approved. The scheme is exclusively available for self-owned residential rooftops.

Earn More for Surplus Power — Rate Hiked to ₹3.26 per Unit

Consumers installing net-metered rooftop solar systems will now enjoy double benefits. The state government has increased the purchase rate for surplus solar power fed into the grid from ₹2.71 to ₹3.26 per unit, offering an additional ₹0.55 per unit.
This revision, effective from the current billing cycle, will provide a significant financial boost to over 1.35 lakh rooftop solar users statewide.

A Step Toward a Greener, Self-Reliant Rajasthan

Officials described the decision as a major step toward promoting clean energy and reducing dependence on conventional power sources. The initiative is expected to not only cut household expenses but also accelerate the state’s transition to sustainable energy.

With this visionary policy, Rajasthan is illuminating both the homes and hopes of millions — making solar energy a true symbol of empowerment and self-reliance.
