The biting cold continues to grip Rajasthan’s Shekhawati region, making life difficult for residents. Influenced by icy winds from the Himalayan region, temperatures in the plains have remained below freezing for the second consecutive day. On Tuesday morning, Fatehpur in Shekhawati recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.9°C.

According to the Meteorological Department, temperatures are likely to remain below freezing over the next three days, maintaining cold day conditions in the region. Clear skies and north winds have contributed to a sharp drop in night-time temperatures, forcing residents to bundle up against the chill.
Frost Threatens Agriculture
The sub-zero temperatures have raised concerns in the agricultural sector. Experts warn that vegetables and fruit-bearing plants are at risk of frost damage. Farmers are resorting to traditional measures such as night-time irrigation and smoke to protect their crops from frost.
Sub-Zero Temps in Fatehpur Not Unusual
Weather specialists say that temperatures dropping below zero during winters in Fatehpur Shekhawati is not unusual due to its geographical location and climate. The region is considered one of the coldest in the state. Historical data shows that on January 14, 2023, the minimum temperature recorded was -3.5°C, while the lowest in the past decade was -5.2°C on December 19, 2021.
Lowest of the Current Rabi Season
For the ongoing Rabi season (2024-25), Monday saw the lowest temperature so far at -3.9°C. Continuous cold waves and frigid winds are impacting daily life, with reduced movement on roads during mornings and nights. The Meteorological Department has indicated that minor fluctuations in temperature may occur in the coming days, but relief from the intense cold is unlikely immediately. Residents are advised to continue taking precautions against the harsh weather.
