Jaipur: The Rajasthan Transport Department has launched its strictest action yet in the ongoing vehicle number allocation scam, directing police to register FIRs against staff involved in fraudulent activities. Transport Commissioner Purushottam Sharma confirmed that fake documents were used to register 7-digit numbers for old vehicles, causing significant losses to the state exchequer.
Immediate Action Across RTOs and DTOs
Commissioner Sharma has instructed all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) and District Transport Offices (DTOs) to take immediate action against employees implicated in the scam. Speaking to the media, he stated, “Any illegal activity tarnishing the department’s image will be dealt with strictly.”
Conspiracy to Defraud the State
Additional Transport Commissioner O.P. Bunkar, in an official order, revealed that several employees colluded with vehicle owners and private individuals to manipulate vehicle registrations using forged documents. The fraudulent registration of 7-digit numbers for older vehicles was done for personal gain, resulting in heavy financial losses for the state treasury. The directive has created an immediate stir across RTO and DTO offices throughout Rajasthan.
Shift from Departmental Inquiry to Police Action
Previously, such matters were handled only through departmental investigations. However, following the commissioner’s strict order, police action will now be taken directly. The move reflects the state government’s commitment to transparency and eradicating corruption within the transport department. Officials and employees found guilty of participating in the fraudulent registration scheme will now face strict legal action under the law.
