Rajasthan Shivers: Snow in Jaisalmer, Rain in Alwar, Hail in Khairthal-Tijara; Meteorological Department Issues Alerts

Jaipur: Rajasthan is grappling with severe cold and icy winds, as dense fog blankets several districts across the state. The Meteorological Department has issued warnings, highlighting the extreme weather conditions affecting both western and eastern Rajasthan.

In Gogunda, Udaipur, temperatures dropped to the freezing point, leading to frost formation in fields. Jaisalmer witnessed a layer of snow covering vehicles in the morning, while Alwar recorded rainfall around 6 a.m. Hailstorms were reported in Khairthal-Tijara, intensifying the chill. Cities like Bhiwadi experienced dense fog under an overcast sky, significantly reducing visibility.

Alerts Across Districts
The Jaipur Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for fog in 18 districts and a yellow cold wave alert for four districts. According to officials, fog will be most severe during early mornings and late nights, while cold winds are expected to persist throughout the day.

Impact on Agriculture and Daily Life
Farmers in Gogunda reported frost settling on rabi crops, which could impact yields, although some crops may benefit from the cold. Schools across half of Rajasthan remain closed due to the severe weather, with reopenings expected from Monday.

Continued Cold Expected
The Meteorological Department forecasts that the cold wave will persist on January 10 and 11, with further drops in minimum temperatures. Light rainfall and drizzle are possible in certain areas, prompting authorities to advise residents to exercise extra caution during early mornings and late nights.
