Jaipur: The face of government schools in Rajasthan is set to change dramatically. Education Minister Madan Dilawar has announced a unique initiative to rebuild dilapidated school buildings across the state. In a first-of-its-kind move in India, new school buildings will now display not only their construction date but also an “expiry date”, indicating when the structure must be demolished to prevent accidents and ensure student safety.
Safety Through a “Deadline”
Minister Dilawar explained that many old school buildings continue to be used long after they become structurally unsafe, putting students at risk. By clearly marking an expiry date on walls, administrators will know exactly when a building should be decommissioned and rebuilt. “Our government is highly committed to the safety of children. We do not want the foundations of future generations to be laid under unsafe roofs,” he said.
Massive Investment for Modern Infrastructure
The ambitious project comes with a budget exceeding ₹1,575 crore, jointly funded by the state and central governments. The Rajasthan government will contribute ₹575 crore, while the central government will provide ₹1,000 crore. The funds will not only go toward constructing new school buildings but also equipping them with modern facilities and resources.
Political Exchange in Assembly
During the Assembly session, Congress MLA Shanti Dhariwal criticized the government over the state of dilapidated schools. In response, Minister Dilawar accused the previous administration of corruption in construction projects, which caused buildings to deteriorate so quickly. He emphasized that the current initiative will systematically rectify past deficiencies and ensure comprehensive modernization of schools across Rajasthan.
