Rajasthan Prepares for Census 2027: 33 Questions to Capture Household and Social Data

Jaipur, January 23, 2026: The first phase of Census 2027 in Rajasthan has been scheduled from May 1 to 14, during which household listing will be conducted. Citizens will also have the option to complete self-enumeration from May 1 to 15, after which enumerators will visit homes from May 16 to June 14 to collect detailed information.

The state government has released a list of 33 questions that will be asked during the initial phase. The questionnaire aims to collect data on households, families, social and economic conditions, and access to basic amenities.

Key Areas of Inquiry
The questions cover details such as building number, house number, construction materials used for walls, floors, and roofs, the current condition of the house, number of rooms, and number of people living in the household. Information about married couples, head of household, gender, and social category (Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, or Others) will also be collected.

Citizens will also be asked about house ownership, drinking water source, electricity, sanitation facilities, kitchen amenities, cooking fuel, and household items such as radios, televisions, internet, and computers. Data on personal and family vehicles—including bicycles, scooters, motorcycles, cars, or jeeps—will also be recorded, along with the primary staple grain consumed and mobile numbers for census purposes.

Purpose and Legal Authority
The census notification clarifies that enumerators are authorized to ask all listed questions to compile comprehensive household and social data, which will form the basis for subsequent census phases and planning. This initiative will provide an updated understanding of living conditions, amenities, and lifestyles across Rajasthan.
