
Hanumangarh, Rajasthan: A major liquor smuggling racket was busted on the Bharatmala Expressway near Rohee Malladkheda in Hanumangarh. During a routine checkpoint, police intercepted a truck carrying liquor worth an estimated ₹1.5 crore, which had different number plates on the front and rear, raising immediate suspicion.
Mismatched Plates Aid Smuggling Attempt
The truck displayed RJ 19 GJ 8526 on the front plate, RJ 19 GJ 9275 on the rear, and RJ 19 GF 8526 on its sides. The driver reportedly tried to escape under the cover of darkness but was pursued by the police.
Massive Haul of Liquor
Upon inspection, the police recovered a total of 845 cartons of English liquor, all reportedly manufactured in Punjab. The consignment’s estimated value is ₹1.5 crore, highlighting the scale of the smuggling operation. Authorities have launched a full-fledged search for the absconding driver.
Bharatmala Expressway: A Double-Edged Sword
While the expressway boosts connectivity and economic progress in Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab, it is also increasingly being used by smugglers to transport illicit goods across state borders. The Hanumangarh police’s vigilance has once again prevented a large-scale smuggling operation.
