Jaipur/Rajsamand: Rajasthan is facing increasing incidents of leopard intrusions in residential and rural areas, raising serious safety concerns. After a leopard entered the residence of Water Resources Minister Suresh Rawat in Jaipur’s Civil Lines on November 20, the latest attack occurred in Rajsamand, leaving an 87-year-old man seriously injured.
Elderly Farmer Attacked in Field
The incident took place in Jhor village on Sunday morning. The victim, identified as Jagarup Keer, was working in his field at around 8 a.m. when a leopard, hidden in nearby bushes, suddenly pounced on him. The attack left the man with severe injuries, including a deep wound to his head, back, and one eye, which was reportedly gouged during the assault.
Immediate Medical Response
The severely injured man fell unconscious in the field and was rushed to a local hospital. Due to the seriousness of his injuries, doctors subsequently referred him to Udaipur for advanced treatment. Authorities have raised alarms over the growing frequency of leopard attacks, especially in villages adjacent to forests, and are urging residents to exercise caution.
Statewide Concern
The recent spate of leopard incidents—from urban areas in Jaipur to rural regions in Rajsamand—highlights the urgent need for enhanced wildlife management and public safety measures in Rajasthan. Forest officials are reportedly monitoring leopard movements and advising villagers on safety protocols.
