Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan: Rajasthan Minister Dr. Kirori Lal Meena expressed strong displeasure over poor construction standards during an unannounced inspection of the under-construction Sawai Madhopur Medical College on Monday. He publicly rebuked officials on-site, warning them not to compromise on quality in critical public projects.
“Is This Cement or Dirt?” Minister Asks Officials
During the inspection, Minister Meena questioned whether the building was being constructed with cement or just soil, emphasizing that substandard work in a vital healthcare facility would not be tolerated. He reportedly went so far as to call some officials “thieves,” highlighting his frustration with negligence and corruption in public construction projects.
Exposure of Substandard Materials and Negligence
The minister revealed instances of poor-quality materials being used and lapses in workmanship, showing officials the extent of the substandard construction firsthand. Dr. Meena, whose constituency hosts thousands of crores worth of public projects, stressed that development is meaningful only if it is durable, strong, and long-lasting. He directed officials to ensure that no compromise is made on quality at any stage.
No Leniency for Negligence
Minister Meena clearly stated that any irregularities or lapses in construction would be dealt with strictly, and responsible officials and contractors would not be spared. He underscored that projects like medical colleges are directly linked to public health and welfare, and any negligence in such projects constitutes a serious offense.
Comments on Central Budget
Earlier in Sawai Madhopur, Minister Meena addressed the media on the Union Budget, describing it as beneficial for youth, women, and the unemployed. He said the budget strengthens India’s vision for development and provides a clear roadmap for economic growth. Highlighting that this is Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s ninth Union Budget, Meena said it opens new opportunities for the poor, farmers, women, middle class, and entrepreneurs.
Reform, Perform, Transform
Minister Meena emphasized that the central government’s budget is guided by the principles of Reform, Perform, and Transform, aiming not only at social justice but also at economic participation, technological progress, and enhancing India’s role in global competition. He expressed confidence that the budget will help propel the Indian economy to new heights.
