Jaipur: The Rajasthan Housing Board is under the spotlight after its recent decision to provide significant concessions to IAS, IPS, and IFS officers under the AIS Phase III Residential Scheme. The board has reduced the administrative fee for these officers from 10% to 5%, translating into direct savings of around ₹9 lakh per officer.
Public Concerns Over Unequal Benefits
The decision, made during the board meeting on Friday, has sparked widespread discussion across Rajasthan. While officers with high salaries stand to gain considerably, questions are being raised about why similar concessions are not extended to schemes aimed at the economically weaker section (EWS), lower-income (LIG), and middle-income groups (MIG).
Huge Savings for Officers
Under this residential scheme, flats are priced between ₹1.53 crore and ₹1.84 crore. By reducing the administrative fee by half, officers from the Rajasthan cadre are set to save approximately ₹9 lakh each. Critics argue that this preferential treatment favors high-income bureaucrats, while ordinary citizens applying for housing under EWS, LIG, or MIG categories do not receive any comparable relief.
Role of the Housing Board
The Rajasthan Housing Board is a key state government body responsible for developing residential and commercial areas across the state. The board launches various schemes, including plots, flats, and houses, which are either auctioned or allotted through a lottery system. While residential and commercial projects cater to multiple categories, recent moves appear to prioritize officers over the general public, sparking controversy and public debate.
