Signalling a tough administrative stance ahead of the new year, the Bhajanlal Sharma-led Rajasthan government has initiated strict action against negligence and indiscipline in the state’s medical services. Under its declared “zero tolerance” policy, the government has dismissed two medical officers who were found to be continuously absent from duty, while pensions of four retired officers have been withheld for violations of service rules.
The decisive move has sent shockwaves through the medical department and is being seen as a clear warning to government employees against dereliction of duty and misconduct.
Services Terminated for Prolonged Absence
According to official sources, the two serving doctors were found guilty of long-term unauthorised absence and breach of service conduct rules. Following due administrative procedures, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma approved the termination of their services, stressing that negligence in essential public services like healthcare will not be tolerated.
Pension Withheld in Disciplinary Cases
In addition, the state government has ordered the withholding of pensions of four retired medical officers under Rule 16, citing serious lapses during their service tenure. Formal orders to this effect have been issued, marking one of the strongest post-retirement disciplinary actions taken by the department in recent times.
More Cases Under Review
Officials said that two additional cases under Rule 16, involving allegations of prolonged absence and unbecoming conduct, will be forwarded to the Governor for approval. Upon clearance, further stringent disciplinary proceedings are expected to follow.
Meanwhile, in a separate case under Rule 17, the government accepted the appeal of the concerned officer and granted relief, indicating that each case is being assessed on its individual merits.
Clear Message from the Government
The action underscores the Rajasthan government’s resolve to enforce accountability and discipline in public service, particularly in critical sectors such as healthcare. The administration has reiterated that strict measures will continue against officials who compromise public welfare through negligence or misconduct.
