Rajasthan Farmers Disappointed as Budget 2026 Ignores MSP, Allocates Just 5% to Agriculture

Jaipur, Rajasthan: Rajasthan’s farmers have expressed strong disappointment following the Union Budget 2026-27, criticizing the government for remaining silent on the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and allocating only 5.31% of total spending to agriculture. Farmers say the budget offers the allure of “cashew and almonds” in speeches, while ignoring the real issues facing wheat and soybean cultivators who continue to struggle with fair pricing and crop insurance.

MSP Silence Sparks Anger
While the government hailed the budget as forward-looking, farmers in Marudhara criticized it as “corporate-friendly.” There was no mention of an increase in MSP or legal guarantees for crop procurement, leaving many growers feeling sidelined.

Only 5% for 75% of Population
Ram Pal Jat, National President of the Kisan Mahapanchayat, questioned the allocation, noting that out of a massive Rs 53.47 lakh crore budget, only Rs 2.84 lakh crore (5.31%) was earmarked for agriculture and allied sectors. “If increasing salaries of 5% of government employees can boost the economy, why hesitate to raise the income of 75% of our farmer population?” he asked pointedly.

Farmers Demand Fair Prices, Not Luxuries
Subhash Sehgal, a farmer leader from Sri Ganganagar, criticized the focus on high-value crops in the budget speech. “Wheat and soybean grow in Sri Ganganagar and Kota, not cashews. Speeches mention cashews and almonds because they sound appealing, but ordinary people feed themselves with wheat. The government is distracting attention from main crop prices by highlighting luxury crops,” he said.

Crop Insurance Remains Overlooked
Farmers in the Shekhawati region expressed disappointment over the absence of new measures for crop insurance. One farmer from Jhunjhunu said that extreme rainfall and hailstorms can destroy fields in minutes, yet the budget did not address these risks. Farmers insist that without strengthening their purchasing power, India’s economic growth will remain confined to paper.
