Baran, Rajasthan: The aftermath of the Anta by-election has sent shockwaves across Rajasthan’s political landscape as BJP candidate Morpall Suman publicly accused Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and three party MLAs of internal sabotage. Claiming that his own colleagues conspired against him out of fear that he might be appointed minister, Suman’s explosive allegations have thrown the party into a state of turmoil.
Party Issues Show-Cause Notice
Reacting swiftly, the BJP state president Madan Rathore deemed Suman’s actions as grossly undisciplined and issued a “show-cause notice”, asking him to respond within three days. The notice warns that failure to provide a satisfactory explanation may lead to disciplinary action.
Explosive Accusations in Letter
In a letter addressed to the district party president, Suman analyzed his 15,594-vote defeat and made startling claims. He alleged that Om Birla’s team worked against him and that substantial sums of money were allegedly used to secure the victory of Congress candidate Pramod Jain Bhaya. He further claimed that partners of Minister Hiralal Nagar distributed money among voters to sway the outcome in favor of Congress.
“Fear of Ministerial Appointment Led to Betrayal”
Suman also targeted three BJP MLAs – Pratap Singh Singhvi, Lalit Meena, and Radheshyam Bairwa – suggesting that local rumors about his possible ministerial appointment prompted them to actively work against him. He blamed other party aspirants, who were unhappy about ticket allocations, for contributing to his defeat.
Impact on BJP and Internal Politics
The letter quickly went viral on social media, forcing the BJP leadership into action. The Anta assembly seat, vacated after former CM Vasundhara Raje supporter Kanwarlal Meena resigned, was previously won by the BJP in 2023. The Congress’s Pramod Jain Bhaya captured it in the by-election, but Suman’s accusations have now exposed deep internal factionalism within the party, raising questions about its unity ahead of future elections.
