Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge Hold Key Meeting with Jharkhand Congress, Dismiss Reports of MLA Discontent

In the midst of speculation about internal tensions within the Jharkhand Congress, a crucial meeting was held in New Delhi on Wednesday. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former party president Rahul Gandhi met with senior leaders of the Jharkhand unit to discuss the state’s current political scenario, organizational strength, and the functioning of the government.

Reports of Discontent Among MLAs Denied

The meeting included Jharkhand in-charge G. Ahmed Mir (Raju), state president Keshav Mahato Kamlesh, and several other senior leaders. Addressing reporters, Keshav Mahato Kamlesh described the meeting as “very important and highly constructive.” He categorically dismissed reports of internal tensions and discontent among MLAs, stating that “there is no dissatisfaction among MLAs or ministers within the alliance. Everyone is working together in full coordination. The positive outcomes in the state are a result of excellent cooperation between the party and the government.”

Ground-Level Feedback Shapes Policy

Keshav Mahato Kamlesh highlighted that the PESA (Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas) rules formulated by the Jharkhand government are among the best ever prepared. He said that while drafting the rules, special attention was given to Jharkhand’s traditional governance systems, customary laws, and cultural practices.

Before finalizing the PESA rules, the Congress and the alliance government conducted extensive public consultations. G. Ahmed Mir personally visited remote areas of Kolhan to gather feedback from tribal leaders, including Munda-Manki heads. Based on these suggestions, Minister Deepika Pandey Singh prepared the draft, which was subsequently approved by Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the cabinet.

Government Fulfills Its Promises

The Congress leadership emphasized that implementing the PESA law was one of the coalition government’s “seven guarantees.” Just as the government approved the Maiya Samman Scheme in its first cabinet session, the PESA rules represent another major promise fulfilled for the tribal communities.

The party has also been proactive in preparing for the upcoming SIR (Socio-Inclusion Reforms) in Jharkhand, with appointments made for Gram Panchayat Committees, Ward Committees, and BLAs. The party has actively mobilized public opinion against changes in the MGNREGA scheme, organizing protests across the state.
