Ragging Exposed at Nagpur Government Ayurveda College Hostel; 19 Students Evicted After Anonymous Complaint

Nagpur: A disturbing case of prolonged ragging has come to light at the Government Ayurveda College and Hospital in Nagpur, Maharashtra, following an anonymous complaint that exposed systematic harassment of junior students. Acting on the findings of an internal inquiry, the college administration has expelled 19 second-year female students from the hostel for a period of three months.

The action was taken after the institution’s Anti-Ragging Committee conducted a detailed investigation and found the students guilty of participating in ragging activities. While the accused students have been allowed to continue attending classes, the administration has issued them strict written warnings.

College authorities have made it clear that any repeat involvement in ragging will invite severe punishment, including suspension from the college for six months or even permanent expulsion.

Anonymous Letter Uncovers 20 Days of Harassment

The case came to light after the administration received an anonymous letter alleging that first-year students had been subjected to continuous ragging for nearly 20 days. The complaint described an atmosphere of fear within the campus, claiming that ragging sessions often continued late into the night.

The letter further alleged negligence on the part of hostel staff, stating that repeated incidents went unchecked despite their occurrence within hostel premises. Alarmed by the seriousness of the accusations, the college administration initiated an inquiry on December 18.

Inquiry and Disciplinary Action

During the investigation, statements of several students were recorded. Based on the evidence and testimonies, the Anti-Ragging Committee concluded that 19 second-year students were directly involved in ragging activities. Acting swiftly, the administration ordered their eviction from the hostel for three months as a disciplinary measure.

Officials emphasized that the decision reflects the institution’s zero-tolerance policy toward ragging and its commitment to ensuring a safe and fear-free academic environment.

Warning to Students

Along with the hostel eviction, the students were made to submit written undertakings acknowledging their misconduct and accepting the consequences of any future violations. The college reiterated that strict action would follow if any further complaints are received.

The incident has once again highlighted the persistent challenge of ragging in educational institutions and the importance of vigilant enforcement of anti-ragging regulations to protect the safety and well-being of students.
