Rabri Devi Bungalow Row: Political Battle or Fight for Dignity

The controversy over the eviction of former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Rabri Devi from her official bungalow has escalated into a full-blown political confrontation. While the BJP seeks to portray the RJD as flouting the law, the RJD claims the move is a vindictive and insensitive action influenced by the Sangh and the NDA government.

RJD: “Vindictive Politics at Play”

RJD state spokesperson Asit Nath Tiwari accused the state government of deliberate political malice. “The eviction issue is being used to settle scores,” he said. “Such actions undermine the spirit of democracy and reflect a dangerous precedent. The order to vacate the bungalow appears unnecessary and driven solely by vengeance.”

Pressure from BJP and Sangh?

RJD national spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed alleged that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, under pressure from the BJP and Sangh affiliates, issued the eviction order. “Nitish Kumar has been in power since 2005 and never asked Rabri Devi to vacate her residence before. This step is fueled by animosity towards Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi,” he stated. The RJD has vowed to challenge the eviction in court, with party workers treating the issue as a fight against political injustice.

BJP: Following Rules, Not Politics

State BJP spokesperson and former MLA Prem Ranjan Patel defended the government’s action, asserting that the bungalow was allocated according to rules. “The RJD is trying to gain sympathy by portraying themselves as victims,” he said. “Rabri Devi’s insistence on holding onto a government bungalow reflects a reliance on state privileges rather than public service. The political relevance of RJD has diminished, yet they refuse to let go of official perks.”

The dispute has now turned the official residence into a symbolic battlefield, reflecting deeper political rivalries and the clash between emotional sentiment, legal provisions, and party strategy.
