Punjab Police Conduct Encounter in Mohali, Shooter Linked to Rana Balachauria Murder Killed

Chandigarh/Mohali: Punjab Police achieved a significant breakthrough in the sensational murder case of Kabaddi promoter Rana Balachauria. In a police encounter in Kharar, a gangster named Karan, linked to the notorious Bambhiha gang, was killed.

Karan had been arrested from West Bengal and brought to Punjab in connection with the high-profile case. During police custody, he complained of chest pain and was being taken to the hospital when he allegedly attempted to escape. In response, the police fired at him, hitting him in the leg. He was immediately admitted to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Background:
Thirty-year-old Rana Balachauria was shot dead on 15 December 2025 during a Kabaddi tournament in Sohana, Mohali. Reports suggest the assailants approached him under the pretense of taking a selfie before opening fire and fleeing the scene. The incident had sent shockwaves across the state, putting intense pressure on the police to apprehend the culprits.

Police Action:
Punjab Police had previously arrested three suspects linked to the case. Karan was identified as the shooter and had been working with the Bambhiha gang for a long time. Earlier, one suspect was killed in an encounter in Karnal, and another was arrested at Delhi Airport.

SSP Harman Hans stated, “Karan was in CIA staff custody in Kharar when he complained of chest pain. While being taken to the hospital, the vehicle halted briefly on a divider, and Karan attempted to flee, using a police officer as a shield. The police responded appropriately, resulting in his death.”

The police confirmed that Karan was directly involved in Rana Balachauria’s murder and had played a crucial role in executing the crime. The Mohali Police remain committed to pursuing all leads and ensuring justice in the case.
