Punjab Police Arrest Parents of Gangster Goldy Brar in 2024 Extortion Case

Chandigarh: Punjab Police have arrested the parents of notorious gangster Goldy Brar, who is currently believed to be hiding in the United States. The arrests, made on Monday in Shri Muktsar Sahib district, relate to a 2024 extortion case. The accused, Shamsher Singh and Preetpal Kaur, were residing in Adarsh Nagar, Muktsar, though their family originally hails from Faridkot district, confirmed SSP Abhimanyu Rana.

Case Background
The case was filed in 2024 based on a complaint by a local resident of Muktsar. During the investigation, the police identified the involvement of Goldy Brar’s parents and took them into custody. Goldy Brar, who gained international notoriety as one of the main accused in the 2022 murder of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, had publicly claimed responsibility for the killing. Brar had moved to Canada in 2017 on a student visa and later went underground in the United States.

This arrest forms part of Punjab Police’s broader crackdown on organized crime within the state. In recent operations, authorities have mapped the locations of nearly 1,200 associates and approximately 600 family members of 60 major gangsters believed to be operating from abroad.

Previously affiliated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, Goldy Brar later separated and is now reportedly linked with the Brar-Rohit Godara-Kala Jatheri gang. In 2024, the central government designated him a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). He faces serious allegations of smuggling advanced weapons, ammunition, and explosives across borders into India using drones to carry out targeted killings.

Police officials emphasized that such actions are part of an ongoing effort to dismantle organized crime networks in Punjab and will continue in the future.
