Amritsar, January 15, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today humbly prostrated himself before Sri Akal Takht Sahib, performing ardas barefoot as a devoted Sikh. He devoted the entire day to the highest temporal seat of the Sikh community, reiterating his faith in its supreme authority and pledging to fully comply with all its directives.
During his visit to the Akal Takht Secretariat, CM Mann met with Jathedar Sahib to provide a detailed explanation regarding his previous statements. He emphasized that he holds the institution’s supremacy in the highest regard and that it is inconceivable for him to challenge or undermine its authority.
Addressing the media, CM Mann said, “Following the orders of Jathedar Sahib, I have personally appeared here as a humble Sikh and provided clarifications in response to questions raised. Sri Akal Takht Sahib is the supreme authority for the entire Sikh community, and it is equally supreme for me. The Jathedar has recorded my statement, and further action will be taken after consultation with the community leaders.”
Respect for Every Directive
Expressing his respect for every decision of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the Chief Minister added, “I will follow every instruction of Jathedar Sahib. Today, appearing here has brought me profound peace, inner satisfaction, and contentment.” He dismissed narratives of a purported clash between the Akal Takht and the Punjab government as “baseless and false,” emphasizing that his administration is fully focused on the development of Punjab and the welfare of its people.
Describing himself as a servant of Punjab, CM Mann said, “I leave no stone unturned for the prosperity and welfare of Punjab and its people. Every day, I offer ardas for the state’s well-being, and my head bows before every sacred place. It is impossible for any of my actions to be against the state or its citizens.” He also submitted 25,000–30,000 pages of complaints to the Jathedar on behalf of millions, highlighting irregularities in the functioning of the Shiromani Committee and requesting a thorough investigation.
He reiterated, “Institutions are always supreme, but leaders may err. There must be no leniency for wrongdoing by individuals. I, along with my family, will adhere to every order of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.” The CM also thanked the Jathedar for presenting him with two significant books on Sikh Rahit Maryada and the Gurdwara Act.
Special SIT for Missing Sri Guru Granth Sahib Copies
Addressing the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to trace missing copies of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, CM Mann clarified that the move was purely administrative and not politically motivated. The SIT’s task is to locate missing copies and prevent their misuse. He requested the Jathedar to direct the Shiromani Committee to assign a unique identification code to each published copy, facilitating their traceability.
The Chief Minister added that the police and state government will identify the locations of the sacred copies and share the information with Sri Akal Takht Sahib and the Shiromani Committee to ensure appropriate action under the Rahit Maryada. He also noted that police have been instructed not to enter religious premises while locating the copies and that prior to 1998, copies of Sri Guru Granth Sahib were printed at multiple locations.
