Chandigarh: Marking the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced a major decision to prohibit the sale of meat, liquor, and all intoxicants in three prominent cities of the state. The government has officially declared Sri Anandpur Sahib, Talwandi Sabo, and the old walled city of Amritsar as ‘Holy Cities’, giving them special religious status.
Complete Ban on Meat, Liquor and Tobacco
According to the notification issued on Tuesday, the sale of alcohol, meat, tobacco, and all narcotic substances will be completely banned within these designated holy areas. Violation of the order will be treated as an offense, and strict legal action will be taken by the police.
The state government said the decision aims to preserve the sanctity of these historically and spiritually significant cities associated closely with Sikh heritage.
CM Mann Pays Tribute at Sri Anandpur Sahib
On the occasion of the 350th martyrdom day, CM Bhagwant Mann visited Sri Anandpur Sahib, where he paid homage to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji—revered as the ‘Hind Di Chadar’ for his supreme sacrifice to protect faith and humanity.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said that Guru Sahib’s teachings and martyrdom will continue to inspire society for generations. He prayed for strength to serve the people with dedication and righteousness.
Visit to Bhai Jaita Ji Museum
During his visit, the Chief Minister also toured the Bhai Jaita Ji Museum, dedicated to the life of Bhai Jaita Ji, honored as ‘Ranghrete Guru Ke Bete’. Mann emphasized that such museums play a crucial role in connecting the younger generation with the rich Sikh history and cultural heritage.
He also appreciated the arrangements made for the devotees at the ‘Tent City’ set up in Anandpur Sahib, noting that pilgrims were provided hotel-like facilities free of cost. Mann shared his sentiments on his official Facebook page, expressing satisfaction over the seamless hospitality offered to visiting devotees.
