Chandigarh: Haryana’s newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP) OP Singh has grabbed national attention with his outspoken comments on road safety, reckless driving, and stunts performed on roads. Speaking about the rising incidents of “stunt driving,” drink-and-drive cases, and street altercations, Singh said that people driving Bullet motorcycles and Thar SUVs often have “disturbed minds” and warned that strict action will follow against such behavior.

Strong Words on Bullet and Thar Owners

DGP Singh, a 1992-batch IPS officer from Bihar, commented that today’s youth and criminals often use their vehicles as symbols of status and dominance. He stated, “Anyone who owns a Thar has a faulty mindset. Thar owners perform stunts, which are often dangerous for others. Today, a Thar is not just a vehicle; it has become a statement.”

He further added that the police are planning to compile a list of officers who own Thars, emphasizing, “Owning a Thar does not give anyone the right to act recklessly. Those who think they can do whatever they want on the roads will no longer be tolerated.” Singh also cited an incident where the son of an ACP ran over a person with a Thar, highlighting the dangers of irresponsible driving.

Vehicles as Dangerous Status Symbols

The DGP explained that Thars and Bullet bikes have become status symbols for youth and criminals, which encourages dangerous driving and recklessness. He warned that misuse of such vehicles will be met with strict action. Singh clarified that his remarks were not aimed at any individual or brand but were intended to raise awareness about responsible driving.
