Faridabad, Haryana: The investigation into the Delhi Red Fort blast and the subsequent unraveling of an interstate and transnational terror module has now extended to Al-Falah University in Faridabad. The university has come under scrutiny after the arrest of MBBS student Dr. Muzammil, creating an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among staff and students.
Authorities have taken 17 individuals connected to the university into custody, including 7 doctors. Sources reveal that nearly 40% of the university’s doctors hail from Kashmir. So far, more than 52 people linked to the institution have been interrogated, with some investigations still ongoing. The sprawling university campus is located in Dhauj village, Faridabad district, covering 76 acres. Dr. Muzammil, who served as a general physician, had been residing in the on-campus doctor quarters for over three and a half years, and police have obtained solid evidence linking him to Jaish-e-Mohammed.
University’s Evolution
Al-Falah University initially started as an engineering college in 1997. It was later granted university status under the Haryana Private Universities Act, and officially recognized as a university in 2014. The Al-Falah Medical College is affiliated with the university, offering MBBS and postgraduate courses.
Meaning and Significance of Al-Falah
The term “Al-Falah” means success, liberation, or salvation in Arabic, and is often used in Islamic contexts to describe a person who attains spiritual success by following the path shown by Allah. The university has positioned itself as a preferred alternative for minority students, comparable to AMU Aligarh and Jamia Millia Islamia, being just 30 km away from Delhi’s Jamia Millia campus.
Concerns Among Students
Currently, the university runs five MBBS batches with 150–200 students each, and medical courses began in 2019, followed by PG classes two years ago. The institution holds an ‘A’ grade NAAC accreditation and is operated by the Al-Falah Charitable Trust. However, students are now anxious about their future prospects in light of the recent arrests. One senior doctor at the university noted that several of the campus doctors are from Kashmir, adding to the apprehensions among the student community.
