Satna, MP: Widespread anger over the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) new regulations reached Satna on Friday, as hundreds of people took to the streets under the banner of “Sarv Samaj.” The protesters denounced the regulations as discriminatory and targeted against specific communities, burning an effigy of the UGC at Circuit House Chowk.
Mass Mobilization Against ‘Discriminatory Rule’
The demonstration saw participation from various social groups, organizations, and political parties. Chanting slogans, the protesters demanded the immediate withdrawal of the so-called “black law,” warning that the movement would escalate if the government failed to act.
Social activists leading the protest alleged that the new UGC rules not only harm the education system but also threaten social harmony. Shashank Singh Baghel, a protester, stated, “If this law is implemented, students and teachers will face mental harassment. It directly goes against the interests of educational institutions and must be revoked immediately.”
Judicial Concerns Cited
Speakers at the protest highlighted a recent court order that had temporarily stayed the enforcement of the regulations due to concerns over potential misuse. “The court’s intervention itself indicates serious flaws in this rule, yet the government is delaying its withdrawal, which is unfortunate,” said one activist.
Security Measures and Peaceful Demonstration
A significant police presence was deployed at Circuit House Chowk during the protest. Despite the strong turnout and visible anger, the demonstration remained peaceful. Protesters collectively demanded that the government fully revoke the controversial regulations and implement transparent and fair policies in India’s higher education system.
